Is Paleo Diet Healthy?

Today we are more and more aware of the fact that our health depends largely on how we eat. Is paleo diet healthy? With so many dieting options available, choosing the one that works the best can be overwhelming. You may find yourself questioning if you should eat only proteins to feel fuller and develop lean muscle? Perhaps you could simply cut out the carbs and drop those unwanted pounds? Or maybe just ditch the fat content and take it from there? Yes, the questions are many and so are the answers. Instead of resorting to drastic measures why not look for a more balanced approach where you eat only those foods that offer optimal health benefits.

If you decide to follow this piece of advice then keep on reading about the purest way to address your diet concerns. We are surrounded by processed products in every aspect of life including our dietary choices. One diet that promotes the theory of eating what our ancestors ate is the Paleo Diet. The diet advocates the idea of eating what nature intended for us to eat. And that means staying away from any refined or processed foods.

The diet derives its name from our ‘Paleolithic’ ancestors who lived harsh lives and did all they needed to do without getting sick or falling victim to many modern day ailments. Also aptly known as the caveman diet, the Paleo Diet is based on scientific findings which prove that  our lifestyles have evolved dramatically, our genetic makeup has not changed much over time. We essentially carry the same Paleolithic genome and therefore the best food options for our bodies to work with are the ones that our ancestors had.

The Paleo Diet is not simply following a meal plan for a certain number of days but a complete lifestyle instead. It adopts better food choices that are necessary to maintain a healthy body while prohibiting foods that the body can easily do without. Most food groups that are omitted were never eaten by our ancestors so it is believed that we don’t need to consume them either.

Paleo Diet Basics (VIDEO)

Just take a look around you and you will realize that many of our contemporary epidemics of obesity, diabetes, heart disease and hypertension are greatly related to the food choices that we make today. We indulge ourselves in overly sweet, salty, greasy cholesterol ridden processed foods and end up with serious health disorders. Following the principles of the Paleo Diet will guide you to a better way of eating as well as keep you right on track regarding your weight loss goals. Take a look at the diet’s healthy food choices and decide for yourself if it makes sense or not:

      • The frontrunners among foods that are given the go ahead in the Paleo diet are lean proteins. Food choices include game meat like poultry and fish as well as other lean cuts from pork, veal and beef. These lean meats are instrumental in muscle buildup and are a major component of the diet. Preference is given to lean cuts as much of today’s meats are very high in saturated fats. Ideally, the meat should come from animals that are fed an organic diet, but since this is not always possible, you can cut out the fat content by sticking with leaner meat options.
      • Next on the list are plenty of fruits and vegetables. Now what could possibly be wrong with those ingredients on your diet plan? Fruits and vegetables are the perfect formula for increasing your vitamin intake and at the same time decreasing toxins from the body. They are nature’s way of boosting the immune system and reducing chances of contracting many diseases.
      • Nuts and seeds are a great source of procuring healthy fats that are needed by the body. The diet allows the use of olive and fish oil to enhance your intake of monounsaturated and omega 3 fats. Once again, these healthy fats are blockades against a number of modern day afflictions.

When you consider the potent food options that you can work with on the Paleo Diet, it is not hard to see why such a program can be very healthful. Yes, initially it will prove to be quite severe and restrictive since our bodies are used to a lot more dietary indulgence. However, once you get in the habit of eating along the Paleo principles, you will not only notice the difference but also start feeling better.
